Australian Poker
The game of poker as we know it has been around since the 1830’s, where it was played in every saloon in the Wild West and gaming boat on the Mississippi River. It has been revitalized in recent years due to the boom in online gaming sites and televised poker tournaments around the world. Nothing beats the thrill and excitement of playing a huge hand coming down to the river card. Even the distance could not keep poker from conquering Australia as well, and Aussie poker is on the rise with world-class poker players and tournaments.
There are many tournaments going on around Australia, whether online or at the casino. In most cases, you must buy into the tournament with a certain amount of cash but there are numerous poker free roll tournaments. In such tournaments, you do not have to pay cash directly in order to enter the tournament, such is the case with invitation tournaments. The tournament will generate revenue through sponsorships, television deals and advertisements. In the online world, it is not uncommon to find free roll tournaments and in most cases, players will simply have to deposit a certain amount of money in their account or even simply earn reward points from previous play in order to enter the big tournaments.
Here is an example, which might clear things up. The Aussie Millions tournament is the highest paying poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere played every January at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. The tournament culminates in the Main Event, which is technically a AU$10,500 buy-in event with a guaranteed prize of $2M in 2009. This tournament is made up of smaller satellite tournaments, which eventually feed the Main Event. There are a number of ways for players to work their way through the smaller tournaments and essentially win their way along with a free ticket to the Main Event where the big money can be made.
